BE A TOPPER

YOU TOO CAN BE TOPPER

After every exam I come across one common picture. Few parents come with the report card of their child. They share the common words, “Teacher, we send our child tosuch a good tuition, still the marks in the report card are too less”.

Few come with complain that their child is not spending sufficient time for studies. While few come with the words that their child spends sufficient time with their books but the marks are not satisfactory.

Along with all this, few students score very good marks and become topper in their class.

All these different experiences made me to think, what is the reason for this? I teach same lessons, take equal efforts, and spend same time for all the students. Then what is the reason for this difference in marks? Why only few are toppers? Why all the students won’t score good marks?

I started my survey. I started a session of few minutes with my students after my regular class. I made a note of all the points shared by each one of them. The common questions asked were, how do you study? How much time you spend on your study table? Do they follow any particular time table? I noted down the answers of each student on different cards. Compared their marks and their answers. After the comparison of their marks and the answers given by each student made me to draw one important conclusion. And made a separate special note of it. Would like to make it easy for you by placing the points in question and answer format.

 Who can be the topper?

First of all make it clear that anyone can be topper. The student scoring average marks can be the topper in the next exam. Each and every student have the potential to be the topper.

(There are few exceptions among low marks scorer and that too with some valid reasons. This will be discussed later)

Why all do not become a Topper?

In spite of having the capacity to become the topper all the students do not reach high score. First reason is that most of them are not aware of this fact that they too deserve the rank. The second reason is, though they are aware of the fact they do not want to take the required efforts. They are happy and comfortable with their marks. There are few things which differentiates toppers from others.

What exactly the Toppers do to reach the top position?

Here are few specific steps followed by the toppers to reach the top most rank.

Let me explain in brief

·        Desire – To achieve anything in life the first thing requires is a strong desire to achieve something.

·        Belief – A belief at heart accelerates your journey.

 ·        Efforts – Be ready to take all possible efforts to reach the top position.

 ·        Comfort zone – This is the most important aspect in successful stories.

Comfort zone never gives you the high results. A path towards the success always begins out of the circumference of the comfort zone. And once you come out of this zone, nothing can stop you.

 ·        Self-discipline – Toppers set a few guidelines and draft a planner. They also check that they follow it religiously.

How do Toppers come out of Comfort zone?

Usually our comfort zone begins from getting out of our bed in the morning. Here the toppers win half the battle. They give up the sweet extra time in bed after the alarm. They get up from their bed at once without pressing the snooze button.

Average students says, I will play for some time, watch TV for few minutes, have rest for a while and later will check out with my studies. On the contrary, toppers says, first I will complete my studies as per my study plan and later if time permits, will spare few minutes on other activities. In fact they keep few minutes reserved for the entertaining activities in their time table.

How is the self-discipline of toppers?

Once you get out of the comfort zone, other things becomes quite easy. They make a perfect study plan and daily time table. They take care that they follow it.

How is the study plan of toppers?

Toppers have clear vision of their score. They are aware of all the required elements to reach there. Their study plan includes, subjects, lessons, sorted answers, objectives, formulae, etc. A day in advance they plan what portion they are going to study on the next day. They make a plan in such a way that they complete their portion well in advance before exam and keeps a provision of sufficient days for revision.

How do Toppers make their Time Table?

Once the study plan is ready, it gives the idea of the time required for the portion to study per day. Accordingly, they set a time table of 3-4 hours daily. These hours are divided in 2-3 slots and adjusted as per the other schedules like school, tuition, etc. One slot for reading, one slot for writing and one for practice.

Toppers make sure that they follow this perfectly.

Apart from all the points mentioned above, I would like to make a note of most important difference I find is, Toppers never give excuses instead they take up the responsibility.

There are very simple things which makes a vast difference.

If absent for school or tuition, toppers check that they complete the portion of that particular day immediately rather than giving excuses.

If fail to do the homework, they accept the mistake and punishment and check they won’t repeat it again rather than giving a list of stupid excuses.

Toppers are really too humble and perfect in following instructions. They are confident but never over confident.

Toppers are among the same class, same school and same society. They are from the same planet. So what makes the difference?

So I think it is quite clear how they reach the top position.

If you too follow the same, nothing can stop you.

Think, believe, decide and just do it.

Hope this will definitely help you to change the wrong mind set about yourself.

God bless you.
